Teacher Feature! Meet Curriculum Coordinator for Dance: Victoria Morris!
Q1: Tell us a bit about yourself!
Hi, I’m Victoria Morris, but everyone calls me Tori! I started dancing at the age of four when my parents enrolled me in classes because I simply wouldn’t sit still. I was always performing, even if it was just to an invisible audience. Dance quickly became my passion and has stayed with me ever since. Outside of the studio, I’m a proud mum to a lively four-year-old boy who definitely keeps me on my toes!
Q2: Tell us more about your professional work!
I’ve trained extensively in all styles of dance and earned a Diploma of Dance after high school. While I excelled across all genres, my passion for musical theatre grew, as it combined storytelling with dance. After graduating, I was cast in Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins the Musical, touring Australia and New Zealand, and performing over 800 shows without missing a single one! I’ve worked with top Australian choreographers and performed in Nice Work If You Can Get It and West Side Story (The Production Company). I was a guest artist in Strictly Gershwin for the Queensland Ballet and worked as an international children’s entertainer, where I loved seeing the joy on kids’ faces from the stage. Shows included Disney’s Rockin’ the House with Mickey Mouse & Looney Tunes. A career highlight was dancing in Michael Ralph’s Hollywood Honky Tonk, paying tribute to Eleanor Powell, in which I received standout reviews from critics. Alongside my dance career, I studied acting at the Film and appeared in TV commercials for brands like Coles, Target, WorkSafe, and Chemist Warehouse.
Q3: Tell us about your role within Stage School Australia!
I’ve been teaching at Stage School for nearly 12 years, focusing on our performing levels, and it’s been an incredible journey. For the past two years, I’ve been the curriculum coordinator for Dance, collaborating with choreographer Jacqui Green to develop choreography for our YABC and Beginners OnStage streams. I also support and mentor our incredible team of dance teachers, providing them with the tools and guidance to help their students succeed. My approach is rooted in clear communication, strong support, and feedback. I provide detailed notes and tutorials to ensure our teachers confidently pass on choreography and performance styles to their students. Additionally, I’ve choreographed Stage School Australia holiday productions, including Spring Awakening and The Wizard of Oz, co-choreographed CATS, Madagascar, and Oliver, and helped restage Seussical and Shrek. Watching the kids grow from rehearsal to opening night is incredibly rewarding and one of my favourite parts of the job.
Q4: What do you enjoy most about teaching for Stage School Australia?
My favourite part of being a dance teacher is sharing my passion for performing with my students. Watching them develop skills and confidence, and seeing their faces light up on stage, realising how far they have come - it’s all incredibly fulfilling. Helping students fall in love with dance and storytelling, just like I did, is truly the heart of my job.
