Musical Theatre Classes (YABC)

The Young Australian Broadway Chorus (YABC) has been inspiring and challenging Melbourne’s young performers since 1999. YABC currently offers musical theatre courses to young people aged 8 – 18 years in 17 venues across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula.

  • Our young performers work with a music director, dance director and drama director to improve technique, build confidence and increase self-esteem while enjoying the fun of working as part of a team.
  • Skills developed throughout the semester are showcased on stage in performances at the National Theatre in St Kilda.
  • Students may join at any age from the year they turn eight, and may progress through the hierarchy of the organisation based on their age and ability.

Singing, Dancing & Acting for kids (Beginners OnStage)

Beginners OnStage inspires young performers through weekly classes for kids 4-7 years at 19 venues across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula. Children get to enjoy and learn singing, dancing and acting all in one easy 1.5 hour weekly class.

  • We also offer our new 1 hour pre-school Foundation* program for 4 & 5 year olds at selected locations across Melbourne!
  • Studies have shown that creative play helps foster confidence, creativity and social and personal development.
  • Twice each year the students take to the stage in fully costumed and themed performances at the professional Union Theatre, Parkville.

Drama Classes (VYT)

The Victorian Youth Theatre (VYT) has been inspiring and challenging Melbourne’s young performers for over 30 years. VYT currently offers weekly drama courses to young people aged 8 – 18 years in 14 venues across Melbourne.

  • Students may join at any age from the year they turn eight, and may progress through the hierarchy of the organisation based on their age and ability.

Our unique programme combines elements of two key areas:

  • ‘Creative drama’ uses a variety of activities to develop spontaneity, imagination, focus, confidence, verbal and physicality.
  • ‘Stagecraft drama’ places an emphasis on vocal projection and clarity, acting techniques, text as the basis for characterisation, and physical staging.

"Firstly, thank you for a wonderful year! Our 3 boys have thoroughly enjoyed this year in Bundoora - and as parents, we have loved seeing their confidence and skills grow and their end of year performances were simply outstanding! The staff have been wonderful, very professional and just fantastic with the kids."

Beginner OnStage & YABC Parent

Last night’s Beginners onstage performance was our first ever and I just HAVE to email you to congratulate you all on an incredible night. We loved it, [our son] had a wonderful time. To say we were happy, thrilled, delighted and convinced this was a great thing for our child to do would all be understatements! We were blown away, genuinely moved at times (Nothing’s going to change my world… OMG!!!) and just so very proud as the parents of [our son]... I just wanted to congratulate you all on what is clearly an enormous amount of prep. work, organisation and sheer professional commitment.

I don’t know what it was but I enjoyed today more than my daughter’s dance concerts. I’m not sure whether it was because it was all boys or because of the lighting or aesthetics, but I just loved it.
