The Australian Youth Theatre (formerly the Victorian Youth Theatre – VYT) provides a mix of acting, drama and speech classes for ages 8-18. We have multiple locations in Melbourne and Brisbane, offering you all the inspiration you need to get on stage.
The Youth Theatre can help you unlock the confidence to share your natural performing skills with the world. Through weekly rehearsals with drama directors, we encourage students to extend themselves, gain new skills and progress up through the Youth Theatre levels.
Students work with others in their age group that have similar skills and experience.
The series of drama classes for kids leads up to the unique and special opportunity to perform original plays written especially for our students by established Australian artists.
Youth Theatre students have the added privilege of access to these writers during the term and being able to hear their motivations, interact with the writers and experience first-hand how the plays may change through the rehearsal and creative process.
Performance repertoire is selected from these plays, and other existing works, according to the age and ability of the students.
